I was shocked to hear, as a former Social Security employee, that Bob Brinker characterized the first several thousand dollars paid to babysitters as a gift not subject to taxes or Social Security tax. Social Security law defines a babysitter as a domestic employee and the employer is responsible for paying SSA taxes if the salary exceeds a certain amount.
The fact that not a lot of people do it doesn't negate the requirement. This is Social Security fraud and something that could keep a politician from getting elected just like those who hired a illegal aliens as babysitters.
A gift is something given for no services provided and just like someone who worked for a corporation a babysitter cannot be considered "gifted" the first several thousand dollars of their salary. This is what contributes to the underground economy which effectively weakens our country. What is wrong with you, Bob Brinker?
