| June 09, 2008 | | Review by Cindy -- Church attendee appreciates Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University | | Review...
I'm just completing Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University course through a church and have found it very refreshing and beneficial. If someone is looking for Dave's plan to be the answer to all their financial woes, better think again. He does teach one to be fiscally responsible for oneself, which is something most formal educational programs do not teach from my point of reference. There are outstanding financial planners and investment institutions out there; there are also planners and financial institutions that are 100% self-serving. The message I got from the David Ramsey course is that we, as consumers, need to do our homework. I am frustrated with bankers and agents and others with whom I've dealt who do use deceptive practices or fail to disclose in layman's terms important information. I am waiting now for a call back from an agent who's putting me off, probably because I'm withdrawing funds from his affiliated investment firm to place it with one I can communicate with directly; education comes in many forms. The initials after your name are only as good as the integrity you have in providing your service. As Dave Ramsey puts it: do business with someone who has the heart of a teacher. I haven't followed every tiny step in the FPU plan, but I would strongly recommend this to anyone wanting to learn how to discern good, sound financial practice from bad. | | |
